While it is hard to believe now, before 1900 when people did not have movies, TV, phones, or internet, they would listen to people talk. A long talk was called an oration. A person giving that talk was called an orator. The Romans of 2000 years ago perfected that technique. Their orators tried to do two things: entertain people and convince people to adopt some particular point of view. Cicero was especially good with his techniques.
There were many famous Roman orators and senators, but the one that comes to mind first is Cicero. Cato the Elder and Cato the Younger were both senators and orators. Julius Caesar could be included in the group and also Marc Antony.
