The Roman Republic began in 510 BC and ended in 31 BC. These are the official dates. The beginning of the republic presents little in the way of a problem, but the ending actually began with the several dictatorships of Julius Caesar and culminated with Octavian's victory at Actium, a span of about 15 years.

Rome was started in 753 BC, but people are not entirely sure when ancient Rome started, but people are sure it started between 600 - 760 B.C. It was built by Romulus.

Although, after awhile, the barbarians (rebels of the Roman Empire) had taken over half the Empire. So the Emperor went back, and tried to hold everything together. But it didn't last long. Eventually, the Empire died around 200 A.D.

But, Rome is still a thriving metropolis. Proud and full of life, today.

The term Roman Empire can have two meaning because historians use this term to indicate the period when rule of Rome by emperors which was started by Augustus - prior to this Rome was a Republic. Augustus established this kind of rule in 27 BC. The other meaning for Roman Empire can be the more usual one: territorial conquest.

It is sometimes said that the Roman Empire in the sense of territorial conquest begun when Rome started to expand beyond Italy after the Second Punic War against Carthage, which ended in 201 BC. However, Rome's expansion into central and southern Italy with the Second and Third Samnite Wars against the Samnites of southern Italy (329-30 BC and 298-290 BC) can also be considered the beginning of the empire as Rome forced the peoples of this area to become allies subordinate to her will, which can be considered a form of imperial indirect rule.

The western part of the Roman Empire fell under the weight of invasions by Germanic peoples who took over all its lands except for Italy. The conventional date for the end of this part of the empire is 476 AD, the year when the last Roman emperor of the west, Romulus Augustus, was deposed. The eastern part of the Roman Empire was not affected by these invasions and continued to exist until 1453. Historian has coined the word Byzantine Empire to indicate the eastern part of the Roman Empire after the fall of the western part. The Romans did not use this term.

In 753BC, Rome was founded by the descendants of Trojan prince Aeneas. His children, the founders, were Romulus and Remus. They built a whole civilization, but only one could rule. Who was it going to be? Romulus and Remus had a battle to settle the conflict of the ruler of Rome. (Rome...) And so Romulus won the battle by brutally killing his brother. The civilization of Rome continued to prosper until the German barbarians came and beat up Rome. Then started the Middle Ages at roughly the 5th century.
