The Romans made quite a number of inversions, particularly in the fields of engineering and architecture. However, were do not know much about their inventors. The Romans did not write about their inventors or their inventions. All were have is a textbook in architecture and engineering by a called Vitruvius. However, he only gave descriptions and did not mention about inventions or inventors. Some of our knowledge about Roman inventions even comes from Archaeology, rather than writings by the Romans.
Well there is Archimedes for one. He invented several things such as the water screw which is a form of irrigation. He also discovered the principles of density and buoyancy. Plus he writes the first known record of levers.
Although a list of inventors as per modern day definitions, ancient Roman "creators" devised such magnificent structures such as aqueducts that were often mentioned by the engineer who built and-or designed them. In related affairs, innovations in combat, such as those implemented by Marius, is given credit. There are no "inventors" of famous Roman constructions such as their paved roadway system.

The Romans were so influenced by Greek culture because many who immigrated to Italy were Greek and so brought their religion and culture to Italy and developed it mixed with the previous settlers. A classic example/myth of this is the story of Romulus and Remus.
