In the US, before the wedding you only wear the engagement ring. At the wedding you remove the engagement ring and the husband slides the wedding band on the bride's third finger of the left hand during the ceremony. Afterwards the engagement ring is relaced on top of the band to complete the bridal set. Sometimes, after the wedding, the bride will opt to have the two (or three) rings permanently fixed together.

It depends on family's choice. In some traditions, the bridal set is used for wedding and engagement, too.

How do you wear a bridal set?

A bridal set typically consists of an engagement ring and a matching wedding band. To wear it, place the wedding band on your finger first, followed by the engagement ring on top, ensuring that the engagement ring sits snugly against the band. This arrangement symbolizes your engagement and marriage, with the wedding band closest to your heart. Some people choose to wear the rings separately or on different hands, but traditionally, they are worn together on the same finger.

Women are supposed to wear the wedding band, followed by the engagement ring after they are married. The rings normally come in a set and are made to be worn together. Some women though only wear their wedding band as their engagement ring may be too much or bulky on the finger with both of them. It is a personal preference though.

Can an engagement ring be used for the wedding ring?

Not really. Engagement and wedding rings aren't the same. An engagement ring is worn in order to show others that you are engaged or in other words you've promised someone. In the same way a wedding ring is worn because it is an indication that you are married to someone. They can be worn together but are seldom interchangeable. Source :-www.buybluesteel.com
