Patriots were the ones who wanted freedom and the Colonists wanted to stay loyal to England (British). And the other one were called Quakers and they did not take sides. This was a big war. But then finally we won our Independence by the Declaration of Independence. Then the 13 colonies became part of the united states and soon it was called the United States of America. And that is why we have our own rights. Freedom is cool!
