Easter in Ecuador is a week long remembrance of the crucifixion and celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Celebrations start on Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, and many take the entire week off.

On Good Friday, there are colorful parades that depict Jesus' last days. Only churches and cathedrals are open.

Called the Saturday of Glory in Ecuador, parades are held and families spend time together in that day.

On Easter, people attend church services.

Franesca, a traditional soup consisting of 12 grains that represent Jesus' 12 disciples, squash, salt cod (optional), sliced hard boiled eggs, banana chunks, fried bread, cheese and peanuts, is served all week, but especially on Friday.
