The belief is that when Jesus died, he did so willingly for the benefit of us all. The Bible says that the wages of sin are death, sin being our willful turning away from God's commands and death being a spiritual separation from God. Jesus, having lived a perfect life without sin, was able to take our place of punishment. He died so that we could be right with God.

Taken from that perspective, it is easy to see why it was such a Good Friday for us all, worthy of remembrance and celebration.
I believe it is simply because when Jesus suffered death on a cross, he also suffered the Wrath of God. Because of this, sins were eternally forgiven. He took our place. That is why it is called Good Friday, I do believe. Without that dreadful day, ALL of us would be doomed to Hell, where we all should be without Christ.
