In the United States that would be the Poinsettia with its brilliant red and green colouring. Originally from Mexico it was brought to the United States by James Poinsett from Charleston South Carolina who was ambassador to Mexico in the 1830s.

In Europe the tradional Christmas flower was Holly/ Mistletoe due to its bright red berries and glossy green leaves. This has now given way to the Poinsettia simply because is it more commerically available.
