It is a song, but may have been adapted into a drama for TV. It is somewhat odd in having someone- the Mother , dying during the Christmas holiday- a rare and morbid touch to a usually joyous, upbeat ( here comes Santa Claus!) line of musical joy. The song has been out since, my guess the nineties (l990"s) and is not, as one might guess universally popular. Okay, people leave this world year round- why drag something morbid into Christmas ( you have, of course in a different world-view Halloween, where spooks and skeletons and such have a vital role). Can"t see this morbid yule song- and the cause of the illness is never directly stated- in this sense it closely paralells the radio drama Shadow of the Wings- where we never learn exactly what the character Carol Sue ( a child) is dying of-= but hints are dropped it is a congenital heart problem. Can"t see this stuff- for Christmas- Shadow of the Wings was an occult drama- not specifically holiday oriented- but has been adopted by WBAI for their Easter show.
