Labor day.
The holiday which honors American workers is Labor Day, the first Monday in September.
In Canada workers striked demanding a 9-hour work day, also known as the Nine-Hour Movement. In 1882, American labor leader Peter J. McGuire witnessed one of these labor festivals in Toronto. Inspired from Canadian events in Toronto, he returned the USA, to New York and organized the first American "labor day" on September 5 of the same year.
in order to honor the American workers
mayday is for workers. since bank workers are social workers they too get a holiday
The holiday was first proposed by Matthew McGuire in 1882. It was made a national holiday by President Grover Cleveland after workers died in the hands of the military.
in 1964 this was the same year all Canadian workers had parity with the American workers and 19 billion retirement fund was growing in GM for Hourly Workers
Canadian Union of Skilled Workers was created in 1999.
Canadian Union of Postal Workers was created in 1965.
Labor Day is a United States federal holiday that takes place on the first Monday in September. The holiday began in 1882, originating from a desire by the Central Labor Union in New York City to create a day off for the "working man." Labor day is an important day in history.
Veterans Day is not a national holiday. It is however, a federal and state holiday in the United States. The Federal government and it's agencies shut down. Most businesses, other than banks, do not celebrate by shutting down. While it is recognized as a national holiday, it really isn't a day off for most veterans. There is no such thing as National Holiday in the United States, even on the 4th of July an employer can make you go to work. It is standard practice to allow workers days off for certain holidays ie. Thanksgiving, Christmas etc. but it is not mandatory. A national Holiday would make a mandatory day off for employees (except some in service jobs).
National Union of Workers was created in 1989.
