  • The word 'fat' shouldn't enter into this as all brides glow on their wedding day and it doesn't matter if they are fat, slim or thin. A heavy set bride should not wear anything frilly. To make herself look slimmer she can go to the wedding shop and buy a 'body slimmer' or a 'widows bodice' that is tightened in the back making the bride look slimmer through the stomach and waist. The lines of the dress should be plain and below the bust line the design should have a wedged V to make the waist look smaller. The skirt part of the wedding dress should hang from the hip (not tight) and flow down either on the shorter or long side. It is not a good idea to try to hide any undesirable bulges by wearing a wide frilly wedding gown as it would make the bride look heavier. Simple is best with great lines sewn into the wedding dress and it looks very modern. Many young brides are getting away from the frilly dresses and wearing the more simple lined wedding dresses. On top, slightly off the shoulder (not too far off the shoulder.) Go classic and plain. Every bride is beautiful!

Does the mother of the bride go to the dress rehearsal?

The mother of the bride goes to the church rehearsal where the wedding party practices what they should do and say and then there is generally a Wedding Rehearsal Dinner after which all members of the wedding party (including the parents of the bride and groom.) There is no dress rehearsal for most brides or wedding party, but the bride and her brides maids would have to go into the wedding shop where the wedding dress and brides maids dresses were purchased to be sure no extra alterations have to be made on any of the dress and the mother may attend this if she asks the bride (which is generally not a problem.)

What if you have no money to be the maid of honor?

The customs of today is that the bride's parents pay for the wedding dress and the maid of honor and brides maids dresses. If this is not the case then be honest with the bride. If you are good friends she will understand and would rather have you in the wedding party than not and should pick up the tab for your dress.
