The 1975 Yearbook of Jehovah's Witnesses says on page 147 that a talk was given at Bethel, their world headquarters,
''It was given December 12, 1928, and published in The Golden Age #241 and again a year later in #268. That talk pointed out the pagan origin of Christmas. After that, the brothers at Bethel never celebrated Christmas again.''
Who? As far as I know, Christmas is still celebrated everywhere there are Christians.
Jehovah's Witnesses will not wish anybody a merry Christmas as they do not celebrate it. However Jehovah's Witnesses can not stop others from wishing them a merry Christmas and usually a Jehovah's Witness will just take it in the kind way that it was meant.
It is 12 days long, though many people stop celebrating about 2 or 3 days into it. It ends on the 6th of January with the feast of the Epiphany.
Santa, Presents, Decmeber, snow, and trees. Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Christ. He was actually born in May/June, put the some pope changed it to December to stop pagans from celebrating a festival.
The reason why Christmas is different from other federal holidays is because for Catholics and Christians, it is believed that it is the birthday of our Savior. ---------------- It is observed on the same date of the month every year, whereas Thanskgiving is always on a Thursday but not the same day of November; and some holidays (as President's Day) are now always on a Monday. Ironically, nobody has any evidence that Jesus was born in December. Christians started celebrating Christmas at the time when other people were celebrating Saturnalia--easier to give converts a new focus for the event than get them to stop celebrating.
Yes, you can.
Christmas in Ireland is the same length as it is in every other country. It is 12 days. People tend to stop celebrating only after a few days, and that is the same in Ireland as it is in other countries. So Ireland doesn't really celebrate Christmas any longer than any other country.
In the society depicted in "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, people stop celebrating birthdays at the age of Twelve. This is when they are assigned their adult roles in the community and begin their training for their designated professions.
no, did not stop.........................
Not quite sure what the question means. Jehovah is God. If you have dedicated your life to Jehovah, you'd have to speak with Him, and tell him that you no longer will lead a dedicated life. But he will hold you to your dedication. He has no provision for 'UN-" dedicating yourself from Him. He is God. But if you wish to leave Jehovah's Witnesses - - you can just up-and-leave. No one will stop you. If on the other hand you commit a serious Bible offense; and if you refuse to change; then Jehovah's Witnesses will 'disfellowship' you from their fellowship. But you can always apply for 'reinstatement' after you have stopped the Bible offence.
