The first labor day took place on September 5, 1882 in New York City as a workingman's holiday. It was held a year later on the same date. It became a national holiday in 1894 and the first Monday in September was selected as the official day. It is more by coincidence/tradition that it is celebrated in September rather than a specific reason.

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade debuted on Thanksgiving day in 1924, as the Macy's Christmas Parade. The celebration was designed to kick off the holiday shopping season, which traditionally begins the day after Thanksgiving (now called Black Friday).

Like most other parades, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade sells tickets to the grandstands and VIP sections. Along the route is first come-first serve. The grandstand tickets are around $750 and the VIP are around $1000.
