Family Dollar and other retailers are going to be open on Christmas Day because of money. Plain and simple. If customers will shop on that day, then they want a piece of the action. If no customers come in, then they will lose money and next year will reconsider the decision. But I have a feeling that customers WILL be out, they will need stupid stuff that they forgot at the last minute. Paper plates, cups, maybe a food item needed at the last second. So, if you shop on Christmas, you are encouraging retailers to stay open. Employees of these retailers usually don't make much money, and if they get paid extra to work a holiday, they will do it. They have families to support, and the extra money is an incentive to give up part of their holiday.
