The human species will last longer if you recycle paper because less trees that produce oxygen are cut down, Also people will be able to use energy longer because you're saving the energy that would have been used to make more of the things (like cans) that you recycle

This is correct but not very helpful. Recycling saves energy, Natural Resources, space for waste disposal, enviromental conditions and reduces pollution caused by having to make new prodects instead of recycling the old ones, and economis benefits.

Recycling involves processing used materials into new products in order to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energay usage, reduce air pollution(from incineration) and water pollution(from landfilling) by reducing the need for "conventional" waste disposal, and lower greenhouse gas emissions as compared to virgin production.

1. In most cases recycling makes people feel better about themselves. However at the present efficiency of our recycling infrastructure, It costs us more than it saves. So it costs people jobs, money, taxes. Without these additional costs, the efficiency of the recycling infrastructure couldn't be improved at any effective rate. In the short run it costs us more to feel good. In the long run, efficiency will improve and the cost to recycle could turn to a resource saving process.
