The polyester fleece is basically a type of plastic, and is similar to PET (polyethyl terpthalate) which is used to make 2 liter soda bottles. The difference between fleece and bottle is how the polyester is made into a thread instead of a solid bottle.
If I am correct, polar fleece is in one sense environmentally friendly because, though it is made from petroleum can be made from old plastic bottles, also made from petroleum, which is a form of recycling. I'm guessing this is because it is reducing the amount of wasted plastic bottles while also minimising the 'new' petroleum use to normally make polar fleece. But most of this is a guess because I just read that plastic bottles can be used to make polar fleece on Wikipedia and the rest is an assumption so believe a 13 year old if you wish.
The answer is yes. You can definitely make a floating raft out of plastic water bottles. You would have to make sure that you had enough plastic bottles to complete the task. For step by step instructions visit http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Raft-out-of-Plastic-Bottles.

Most recycled plastic bottles are recycled into... plastic bottles, especially PET plastic, the one with the Number 1 in the triangle. Other kinds of plastic bottles can be again made into similar plastic bottles, or they can be "downcycled", that is, combined with other plastics to make things like garbage bins and garden furniture.
