There's something strange here. Tachometers usually count the RPMs(Revolutions-per-minute) of engines, and bicycles as a rule hasn't got engines. So not much use of a tach on a bicycle.
VDO do make engine gauges, so they might certainly make a motorcycle tach. They also make cyclocomputers (w/o tachs), you can get one of those for about USD 150.

I'm guessing that your seeing those letters in the instrument cluster? VDO is a gauge company, thatsupplies Mercedes Benz with some of there gauges, ie. tach, speedometer.
