Some allen wrenches have rounded or ball tips to allow for easier access to screws or bolts that are at an angle or in hard-to-reach places. The rounded tip helps the wrench to pivot and reach into tight spaces more effectively.
Wrenches or spanners are most useful. Sockets are very useful in many cases. I keep complete sets of both SAE and Metric wrenches in my car. along with Allen wrenches of both types. I do have some excellent adjustable ( crescent ) wrenches, but prefer wrenches that fit exactly as I was taught in maintaining aircreft.
I believe that's a 3/8 allen wrench, but it's a really simple matter to get under the vehicle and try different wrenches on until you find the correct one. Many calipers are held on with a 3/8 allen bolt, but some are 10mm and some even 1/2 regular bolt.

The sensible thing would be to remove the wheel and look . Test some wrenches on it, see what works. -After all you are changing or repairing the most important part of your car. Why take someone else's opinion .
The best gear wrenches can be found at the website http://www.gearwrench.com. Give that website a look and compare the prices to your old gear wrench.
The ball joints on a gm vehicle are not a "do-it-yourselfer" type of job. some ball joints need to be removed by grinding the studs off and using an air impact hammer to drive the studs out.. other ball joints can be removed with wrenches. my recommendation to you, would be to take your vehichle to your local gm dealer. Have the service department inspect the vehichle, and give you an estimate on the needed repairs.
Many of the most popular and trusted brands in power tools manufacture best-selling impact wrenches. Craftsman, DeWalt, Kawasaki, and Hitachi are all reliable brands with high-rated impact wrenches.
Humans have improved the simple wrench by making box wrenches, off-set wrenches and ratchet wrenches. An indirect improvement was the invention of sockets, so the head of a bolt or nut could be totally gripped.
