Information Evolution

Information Evolution is the resultant radical changes and advances in the techniques of data and information processing. Information dissemination changes gradually over a long period of time, for example, evolution of computer.

Stages of Information Communication Evolution

1. Invention of printing: Printing is a process for reproducing text and image, typically with ink on paper using printing press. It is often carried out as a large-scale industrial process, and is an essential part of publishing.

The earliest books and records were chiselled on stone and other durable materials. After which the Egyptians discovered how to make a form of paper or papyrus from reeds that became a popular writing material. During all this time, books were written and copied by hand. But during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, image prints were made from carvings on blocks of wood which were inked and pressed firmly on the paper. Later on, a series of these prints were tied together to form a book of pictures. The books that were printed in this form were called Block Books.

During the period of the fifteenth century, there was an invention of the movable-type printing. It is allowed for much more flexible processes than hand copying and block printing. This printing is the basis of our present-day method.

Printing Techniques

ØScreen-printing: for T-shirts and others.

ØLaser printing: mainly used in offices and for transactional printing

ØInkjet: used to print a small number of books or packaging, used to apply mailing addresses to direct mail pieces.

Invention of Radio: Radio is a technology of wireless transmission of information by means of electromagnetic waves. It all started with the discovery of "Radio Waves"- Electromagnetic that have the capacity to transmit music, speech, invisibly through the air. Radio owes its development to two other inventions, the telegraph and the telephone, all the three technologies are closely related. Radio technology began as "Wireless Telegraphy".

The earliest system for sending electrical through the air via electromagnetic waves was called Wireless, and later Radio. Radio transmits and receives communication at various preset frequencies. Radio waves carry the signals heard on AM and FM radio. The invention of radio transmitters and radio receivers at the end of the nineteenth century is considered one of the most significant achievements of humanity of all kinds. Radio was the first medium of remote transmission of audio information. The inventors of radio are the Italian Eng.Guglielmo Marconi, Nicola Tesla, Nathan Stufflefield and some others.

Radio waves are present literally everywhere. Radio waves or electromagnetic waves are used in cellular technologies, modern internet technologies, microwave oven, cordless phones e.t.c. The waves in microwave ovens are of the same nature as the ones transmitted by any other radio device. Radio technologies have contributed to the transformation of the industrial world into a world where information and information technologies are the driving force of further development.

Invention of Television: Earlier television devices had been based on an 1884 invention called the Scanning Disk by Paul Nipkow. His mechanical system could not scan and deliver a clear and live-action image. Philo realized an electron beam could scan a picture in horizontal lines reproducing the image almost instantaneously. Rather than an electron beam by Philo, Farnsworth's image dissector used an ''Anode Finger'' to scan the picture. Zworykin's and Philo's devices then transmitted the current to a cathode-ray tube, which recreated the image by scanning it onto a fluorescent surface.

Farnsworth applied for a patent for his image dissector in 1927. Philo T. Farnsworth was always an outsider, a bright star blazing in the dawn of a new electronic age. His romance with the electron was a private affair, a celebration of the spirit of the lone inventor.

The principle of television is somewhat more complex than that of radio. It involves the transmission of not only sound but also moving images at long distances. Television is based on the principle of successive transmission of frames by means of scanning. The first television sets were commercially available in 1930. Today we have digital television which uses digital technologies that allow better quality of the TV image.

Television is the most widespread form of communication in the world.

Invention of the Telephone: Telephone is an instrument which converts sound, specifically the human voice, to electrical impulses of various frequencies ant then back to a tone that sounds like the original voice.

The invention of the telephone is the most remarkable and note-worthy innovation in the history of mankind. Probably no means of communication has revolutionized the daily lives of ordinary people more than the telephone. Telephone has literally changed the world and made it smaller.

Other remarkable inventions related to the telephone are the rotatory dial, invented in 1983. There have been numerous the modifications in the structure and design of the telephone and today you find it in attractive designs and colours. Even though cell phones and wireless technologies are more applicable nowadays, a wired telephone can still be found in many households.

The invention of Computer: The invention of computer started around 2000yrs ago at the birth of abacus. An abacus consists of a rack bearing parallel wires on which beads are moved. It is an instrument used in performing arithmetic calculations. In 1617, John Napier invented logarithms, a technology that allows multiplication to be performed via addition. The first digital computer was invented in 1642 by Blaise Pascal. In 1694, Gottfried Wilhelm Von Leibniz invented a computer, a special Stepped Gear Mechanism for the addend digit introduction, and this is still being used.

In 1886, Herman Hollerith developed an electro-mechanical data processing machine. He developed

What stage is when information gathering is more important than emotional connectedness?

The stage where information gathering is prioritized over emotional connectedness is typically the initial stages of problem-solving or decision-making processes. During this stage, the focus is on collecting relevant data, facts, and details to inform the subsequent stages of the process. Emotional considerations may take a backseat until a clearer understanding of the situation has been achieved.

What is the meaning of information seeking behavior?

Information seeking behavior refers to the process individuals engage in to obtain information they need. This behavior involves various stages such as recognizing the need for information, formulating a query, searching for relevant sources, evaluating the information, and using it to meet specific goals or tasks. It can be influenced by factors like individual characteristics, task complexity, and the availability of information resources.
