The purpose of the overflow tube in a car's radiator system is to allow excess coolant to flow out of the radiator when the engine is hot and the coolant expands, preventing pressure buildup and potential damage to the radiator or engine.

What is the small hose on top of radiator that goes all the way across it?

The overflow hose, that carries coolant from the radiator to either a reservoir on modern cars or to the ground on older cars.

Where is the radiator cap on the 2002 mailbu you can't find it?

most engines have it on the radiator, some newer cars have it on engine. but i think yours is just in the overflow tank

Where do you find the radiator cap in order to remove it and add radiator sealant on a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora?

: The overflow cap (radiator cap) is on top of the tank that sits on top of the dr. side fender under the hood.some of the newer cars do not have a "radiator cap" it goes in to the overflow tank . i would not suggest using radiator stop leak because it can clog up the radiator and heater core on the car if you must use it only as a last resort.

What is the purpose of pressurising the cooling system?

what is the purpose of pressurizing a cars cooling system

How many type of cooling system are used?

All cooling systems are basically the same with a few variations from car to car. Here are few tips about those variations: 1)There are many different types of coolant available, and you should only use what is recommended for your vehicle. Even if it means that you have to buy a bottle of 'honda' or 'toyota' coolant from the dealership. Don't use "all makes, all model" coolants. The vehicle specific coolants were designed to mix with the various gasket materials and metals in the specific engine of your vehicle. 2)Overflow tanks. In most vehicles there is an overflow reservoir, and the radiator. Both of which need to be filled to the proper level. WITH ENGINE COLD remove the radiator cap and an the radiator should be full to the top. Then the reservoir should be filled to the "cold fill" line. The system works by allowing coolant to enter the overflow tank from the radiator as the engine gets warm and coolant expands. Then as the engine cools off and coolant retracts it will suck coolant from the overflow back in to the radiator. Many other cars are equipped with a purge tank. In these systems there is only one cap on the reservoir. In this system the reservoir is pressurized and connected directly to the radiator. 3)Water pumps. All cars have a water pump. Some cars put them out in the open, and easy to access. Other cars bury them deep inside the engine and drive them by timing chains or belts.

How do i add water to the radiator in a 2005 Malibu?

It is no longer necessary to add just water to a radiator in newer cars like the 2005 Malibu. An antifreeze that is half water and half antifreeze is usually best. Add the 50/50 antifreeze to the radiator overflow tank. It should be a plastic, see through tank hooked to the radiator.

How do you add coolant directly into radiator?

Don't! Most cars have a reservoir for radiator coolant ... add liquid to the reservoir. Opening the radiator cap introduces air into the sealed system ... you don't want air bubbles in the cooling system.

How would get an air bubble out of the radiator?

Don't worry about it, just close the lid and the automatic filler will prime it eventually. Most newer cars are self-purging. Keep coolant in the overflow tank and it will 'burp' out the extra air once the engine comes up to temperature. When it cools, the system will suck coolant out of the overflow tank to make up for the air that got 'burped' out. You'll know it is working because the coolant level in the overflow tank will drop.

Is it possible when you have radiator fluid leaking that the timing is bad?

If the timing were off, it would be possible to overheat an engine, and have the overflow throwing water at you. But, in newer cars, this is usally not the case. You might have a bad hose somewhere-radiator, or heater hoses. And/or, the thermostat could be bad. NOPE

What is a reservoir tank?

In a Car: A tank to hold "overflow". When fluids heat up, they expand, and like radiator fluid, they need a place to go until they cool. Some cars keep these under some pressure, and if there is a leak, then an engine light will now come on. In the older cars, a leak in this tank would be a minor problem because you'd loose fluid when it leaked out of the overflow.

Do you add coolant to the over flow tank or the do not remove cap?

We would probably call the "Do Not Remove" cap the radiator cap. In most cars that cap is on the radiator. First - NEVERremove the cap unless the engine is stone cold. Hot water and steam could blast out of the radiator and burn you! Normally you would add coolant to the overflow tank if you are just topping off coolant that is a little low. If you have overheated the engine or blown a hose and lost most of the coolant, you would have to remove the radiator cap and refill the system there. If this happens, check a repair manual for your car, because some cars have a procedure to purge trapped air from the system that MUST be followed, otherwise the engine could be damaged.
