Well it is possible but it is not recommended. If the Kappa's find out that you was in another fraternity they might kick you out of that one. You would waste a lot of money and time. Was the other fraternity a black fraternity or just a service fraternity. You still can be in honary fraternities but not two social fraternities.

Yes, it varies from organization to organization and campus to campus; But many fraternity chapters across North America establish separate 501(c)7 housing corporations to finance and act as legal landlords for the property. Due to the great financial burden owning several real estate assets can place on the national or international organization, most housed chapters own their own property. Many growing campus's are building campus owned Greek housing options in which case it is often the school who owns the property.
A fraternity works through a hierarchical system. At the top is the grand chapter, who oversees all of the chapters. The next step down is the chapter, which is the fraternities representation on an individual campus. For example, the fraternity as a whole is Zeta Psi, but the chapter at American University is Delta Chi. Basically, it makes it easier for brothers to differentiate which school you go to/graduated from.

Strictly speaking, a fraternity is a "brotherhood." In the United States, on colleges campuses, fraternities are organizations that young men join, in which they live together in a house close to campus - acceptance of a newcomer into a fraternity is frequently dependent on successful completion of "initiation rites," also known as "hazing." Unfortunately, this frequently involves the consumption of massive amounts of alcohol, in fact, one reads about a young man dying of alcohol poisoning at a school almost every year.

When I was an undergraduate there in the late 1960's, Harvard had a chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon--which I believe was the only fraternity on campus. I'm not sure what the current situation is.
