Americans usually aren't too superstitious and don't believe in bad luck. But occasionally, you'll find stories about opening umbrellas in the house, walking under ladders, allowing a black cat to cross your path, breaking a mirror, and spilling salt.

It would highly unusual to find a person who actually believed these things caused bad luck though.
