Although she is of the House of Windsor, the Queen officially has no surname and as daughter of the King (George VI), had no maiden name. Prior to her marriage to HRH Prince Phillip, she was known as HRH Princess Elizabeth

During the war as a young subaltern in the ATS (Auxilliary Territorial Service) she used the inofficial surname Windsor.
