During the course of 2013, there have been three Prime Ministers of Australia.

  • Julia Gillard of the ALP, who was elected in 2010, but ousted in a leadership ballot in June 2013, resulting from dissatisfaction with her performance as leader
  • Kevin Rudd of the ALP, who had been previously replaced by Julia Gillard in a similar leadership ballot in 2010. Rudd returned to office on 27 June 2013.
  • Tony Abbott, of the Liberal Party of Australia, who won office conclusively in the Federal Election on 7 September. He was officially sworn in on 18 September 2013.
