If a patient has a neck injury, EMS personnel will first ensure the scene is safe and then assess the patient's condition. They will stabilize the neck using a cervical collar to minimize movement and prevent further injury. The patient will be carefully moved onto a backboard or stretcher while maintaining spinal alignment, and vital signs will be monitored. Finally, they will transport the patient to an appropriate medical facility for further evaluation and treatment.
Immobilize with a spine board.
put them on a trauma board
No, legally you do not need to have doors on your vehicle. It is highly recommended for your safety if there is a roll over or you have severe neck injury that you do have a door so that EMS can safely get you out of the car with no other injury to yourself.
EMS
when you suspect that there maybe a possible head/neck injury, just to the jaw thrust, not the head-tilt-chin-lift thing. if ever there's a neck injury, it's better prioritize your patient's airway first rather than the neck injury.
No!
Patient Care Report from EMS
The head-tilt technique should not be used when it is suspected the patient may have a cervical spine or neck injury.
Cervical radiculitius can be caused by a neck injury but, is not always associated with one. It is caused by an impact to the neck OR repeated bending of the neck. I have it and all of a sudden I woke up with my neck sideways and extreme nerve pain in my right arm. Hope this helps.
No neck injury. He just naturally has a slight tilt to his head, putting his nose a bit elevated.
Continue to monitor the patient until help (EMS) arrives.
Hi. I would transport the patient in the lateral position, making sure they are facing you should you need to suction their airway or perform other procedures. In regards to airway and breathing, it all depends on whether the patient is maintaining their own airway or not. A patient can quickly obstruct their airway with their tongue, or can slowly aspirate secretions or vomits down their trachea should they be left in the supine position.
