The Marshall Plan.
Marshal -Leticia Ugarte<3
To defend and aid other countries or in the alliance when they are attacked by any enemy nation.
The Marshall Plan, officially known as the European Recovery Program, provided substantial financial assistance to European countries after World War II to promote economic recovery and stability. It allocated around $13 billion (equivalent to over $150 billion today) in grants and loans for rebuilding infrastructure, revitalizing industries, and stabilizing currencies. The aid aimed to curb the spread of communism by fostering economic cooperation and growth, ultimately leading to the integration of European economies.
European countries received various forms of aid, most notably through the Marshall Plan after World War II, which provided substantial financial assistance to help rebuild their economies. This aid included grants, loans, and technical assistance aimed at promoting economic recovery and preventing the spread of communism. Additionally, other forms of aid involved humanitarian assistance and resources for infrastructure development. Overall, these efforts were crucial in stabilizing and revitalizing war-torn Europe.
Some third world countries that receive aid are Madagascar in Africa and Guinea in Asia. Afghanistan, Yemen, and the Congo all receive some type of aid.
It left many African countries dependent on foreign aid for survival. [APEX]
The US gave military aid to countries in the fight against the spread of Communist under the Truman Doctrine. The first countries to receive aid under the Truman Doctrine were Greece and Turkey.
Opinions differ on which economic aid programs should be counted as part of the Marshall Plan. However, essentially every European country was offered aid (except fascist Spain). The Soviet Union refused aid and pressured the countries under its occupation to do the same, so that only about 18 countries received aid--except for Turkey, all in Western Europe.
