Dragonflies come out during the day and have long (somewhat stick-like) bodies, with four wings which stick out perpendicular to their bodies and cannot fold over their backs (unlike damselflies, which are very similar to dragonflies but smaller and with foldable wings). Fireflies are nocturnal, and have a body very similar to a beetle's. They only have two wings, which fold under a hard protective shell when they are not flying, and the lower section of their bodies is bioluminescent. Google image search both insects for a clearer understanding of their differences.
