Here is one shelter in the Voorhees, NJ area. Animal Welfare assoc. (aka. AWA) on Centennial Boulevard. Your child will have to fill in a sheet in order to start volunteering.
In the mean time, he/she can make cat toys out of babies socks and make dog treats. The home made kind. Your child can also donate his/her money in order for the shelter to get more things to entertain the animals.
