To be an HR assistant, a person needs to have knowledge of employment law. In addition, you would need skills in benefits, recruiting, training, and all around good people skills. While it is possible to get this position with no formal training, it isn't highly likely. Many junior colleges are offering 2 year programs to become qualified as an HR assistant.
