Most scut and entry level work is paid at or near mimium wage. As you pick up responsibilty or demostrate skill, the store will most likely increase wages. Some ways to start off at a higher wage is to work the overnight restock crew, odd shifts, Sundays, ect...Other ways to increase above miminum wage is to have a skill like accounting or butchering. All that being said, stores need dependable and reliable people and, as soon as you demonstrate that, they will pay more to keep you.
