I'm going through this right now with a vertical mount on my Pitbull. According to ABATE, as of 6/16/09, the governor has signed the reversal of the "horizontal tag" bill that previously restricted vertical license plates on motorcycles. The unlawful speeding violations are still present in the law. The Bill as it relates to motorcycles: Section 4 Subsection 3 of the section 316.2085, Florida Statutes is amended to read: "The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed to the vehicle and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. No device for or method of concealing or obscuring the legibility of the license tag of a motorcycle shall be installed or used." All license plates must be mounted in such a fashion to be completely read at 200 feet ... having these plates in horizontal configuration is national standard.
Yes a side mounted licence plate is legal in the state of Georgia. The only stipulations are that it is mounted horizontally and is illuminated. The vertical mounted plates( the ones you see in the parts magazines) are not.

The yoke's(!) on a motorcycle is the two plates of wich the front-telescopes, as well as the steering-axle, gets through. The handlebar are traditionally mounted on the upper yoke!
