I am a huge Minecraft fan ;D and I have often pondered this question myself. However, whilst diamonds are the 'Hardest' mineral on Earth it is impossible to create a a solid sword out of them. The engineering used to create swords simply is not suitable for this kind of material. As well as this, whilst diamond is the 'hardest' mineral it is not strong enough to withstand the lateral force of another blade colliding will it and would shatter. Whilst a sword blade could not be made completely of diamonds, very very thin layers of diamond on the edges of the blade may be effective. :) Hope this helped you.
