Can a convicted felon have a shotgun in his home?

I am a convicted felon, however I've only been in trouble with the law one time and what I got in trouble for was not a violent offence, nor did it envolve any guns, weapons, drugs, or Alcohol. Is it possible for me to hunt with a shotgun

Depends on your state and the law's wording or verbiage. In some states a felon simply can't buy or be in possession (carry) Since rifles in many states are not registered and have no background check a felon could buy in those states and stay under the radar as long as it's not in your hands, you are not in possession. In others a felon cannot have immediate ACCESS to firearms belonging to others in addition to examples like above. Speak to some gun shop owners where you live that keep up with local laws and they change often. Just remember, if you ever had to use it to save your life, the law would not be your primary concern and some states are different as what is required to make it's use justifiable-check that too before you ultimately decide. Example in some states an intruder has to be inside, some inside and you have no escape route, while others-simply on property and armed etc. etc.
