In Ontario you can not work for the government with a criminal record. This includes teachers. All government employees are subject to acriminal records check prior to acceptance into employment.

It is possible to get a government job by applying and receiving a pardon.

No, one can not enter Australia with a criminal record. One can not have any type of type of convictions because they will fail the character test they must take before they get a visa into Australia.
The old joke is that at one time, it was REQUIRED! (To my Australian friends- please forgive me!) Australia doesrequire that immigrants and visitors be of good character, and SOME criminal records will prevent you from obtaining a visa.
