No you do not have to tell them exp. if the charge was on your minor record. You can tell them just to avoid the BS wait time for you if they have a problem when they find it. And yes they will find it... I was in the US Army as a counter Intel agent, which calls for a more extensive check, but they do check criminal history no matter what.
