The US has a 'List of Crimes of Moral Turpitude' that is uses when deciding whether to allow entry to an individual with a criminal record. Anyone who has committed a crime of moral turpitude (such as murder, rape, forgery, prostitution bribery, aggravated battery, etc) and their record is discovered may risk arrest, incarceration, and the possibility of a lifetime ban. If you committed a crime that is not on the list of moral turpitude than you will still be able to enter (although there is still no guarantee).

Individuals who have a criminal record for a crime of moral turpitude can apply for a US Entry Waiver, or I-192. Once granted, this document will allow those individuals to travel to and within the US for a specified amount of time (1-5 years).
