The simple, but incomplete, answer is to gather all the information you have so far, and call your local police. If your local department has the resources they will take it from there. Unfortunately, most police agencies do not have the resources to devote to non-violent property crimes. When that is the case, you have to take a reasonable amount of responsibility for protecting your own business. Which means, you have to build the case yourself.

To prosecute, your information has to identify the person responsible and show that they took the missing money or property, without authorization, for personal gain or use. Once you have all this information is an organized package (in essence, a completed investigation) it becomes a workable matter for the police. Make your crime report with all the new information attached, and it will be prosecuted.

So how do you build the case?
