I own this car, and there is no release mechanism inside the car for starters. Just go to the front of the car and (looking at the car), look for an access opening under the right (driver) side front of the bumper. You may have to have a friend help you pull up on the hood while pulling on the lever. it depends on whether or not the latch is working correctly.

I have this problem. I was taught to stand by the front, driver's tire with the driver door wide open. Lifting it up as much as you can will somehow pop the hood. Then, walk around to the front of the car and procede to open the hood as usual. I've been told that the hood shocks are worn.
