Selling a patent can be a long and arduous process for an inventor. The process is even more arduous if inventing is not what you do full time. Researching companies in your industry, preparding your product report and presentation, phone calls, emails, and follow ups to connect can leave an inventor physically and emotionally drained. The invention that they determined to and successfully patented now seems like it will never make it to market because of all of the red tape in front of the inventor that they can do little about. What they once were confident would be in everyone's home now seems like a distant dream. How can a I sell my patent or find a companythat will take it to market and pay a royalty fee? These are common questions from inventors who have patents for sale or new ideas they would like to commerciaize.

Selling a patent can be pursued in a variety of different ways. There are a multitude of sites out there that host inventor forums. You can search the internet and find a good one and after posting a substatnial amount of value to other members of the forum you can get some great information in return. You can also contact companies that will do more market research on an idea you already know has market demand. I'm only being slightly sarcastic about selling your patent in these formats- after all many people go this route so something has to be ok with that path, doesn't there? Ok, well hang with me.

The process for selling a patent does not need to be such a struggle. You can do some research on companies in the industry and follow up with them. If you have an interesting patent that they think would be easy to commercialize given their current supply and distribution chains they may very well move with your product quickly.

You can sell products on ebay but I think this question is about how to sell your invention to a someone (company) that will develop and sell it.

As with other similar questions, I recommend:

• List it on a idea website.
• Consult an invention marketer like Lambert & Lambert (or Davison, but more expensive)
• Market yourself and your invention however possible - if nobody knows about you and your invention, how can you sell it?

Depends on the intellectual property but here are some options to sell the idea (not patent - from my personal dealing with Davison, they say that a patent is not necessary until later development stages). You can sell ideas at the idea stage - it's still intellectual property. I would recommend listing it for exposure, then also looking into the marketing companies, of which I prefer Lambert & Lambert due to the cost savings. Davison is very expensive and geared towards a prototype (est. $10-15K).

Ideas are intellectual property and should be safeguarded until you're ready to do something with it. Chances are if you thought of it, someone else did or will. So, first to market is very important.
