There are no set requirements in the US to become a family mediator. You do not have to be a lawyer. The family court system in most states sets a minimum number of hours of training and experience to be listed in a family court referral system. 40 hours of training has become a default standard in the profession, but most practitioners would say it takes many more hours than that. Many advise setting up a mentor, doing co-mediation (mediation with a more advanced practitioner), and volunteering at a community mediation center to get actual case experience. A community mediation center also provides an environment where your work can be evaluated and you can be coached.

Mediator
Couple of months I think
no you don't have to
Taking debate classes and similar courses at a college will be a big help. Beyond that, there is no test to pass or official qualification you need to obtain in order to become a mediator.
I think it depends on the type of family you have. With my family, it is better to wait for everyone to calm down and discuss it with someone else there as a kind of mediator. Some families don't need mediators and can just discuss problems as soon as it happens.
Someone that you may know that can help you with a conflict or an issue that you are dealing with.
The mediator is going to be made in to a movie! There is even a petition demanding that the Mediator series is going to become a movie. Hope you enjoy it when the movie comes! heather But Meg Cabot herself wrote that there will be no mediator movie on her site. So i guess that's that. Meg Cabot has on her website that the Mediator film rights were bought by Julia Pistor, the producer of the Spiderwick Cronicles.
You can, but depending on the conviction your family member had they might be more biased towards you.
Depends on what kind of mediation you are looking to go into: family, divorce, small claims, corporate, etc. When you know your focus you can look into taking relevant courses to get background knowledge in those areas.
If you are unbiased in your opinion and you have attended session, which are conducted for potential mediators and you have scored well in those sessions, then you can be a mediator to your family.
You could have a Legal Mediator Career. You can find information at http://occupations.careers.org/8405/legal-mediator
I found one through a divorce attorney-someone licesened in my state and an attorney herself.
