Amendment VII of the United States Constitution (part of the Bill of Rights) specifies the right to a jury trial in certain civil cases under federal; jurisdiction.

However, although the U.S. Supreme Court has incorporated most of the amendments of the Bill of Rights to obtain for states, this is not the case with the 7th amendment.

The (VII) 7th amendment to the constitution is about your right of trial by jury, if the amount in question exceeds $20.

Since almost all cases, if not all cases dealt with by the courts today exceed amounts of more than $20, you are guaranteed the 'option' to have the case heard (and judged) by a jury of your peers. The jury is there to make a decision of the facts in the case which cannot be re-examined by another court.

Article [VII.] reads like this:

In Suits at common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.

[Notice it states... in suits at "Common Law"]

Many of the cases today are handled in courts that deal with "contract law" otherwise known as "administrative law", so when you get that traffic ticket for speeding and/or drunken driving, you're entering a court that will not allow you to have a jury trial, because it's not a 'common law' suit.

Since you broke the rules of your 'driver's license' contract with the STATE, the judge decides whether or not you broke the rules of the contract. Then they can fine you much more than $20 and even put you in jail for an extended amount of time, without a jury of your peers ever being present at the trial.
