Life sentence in India has a duration of minimum 25 years till death. Its not 14 or 20 years as some people believe. But the sentenced person may be granted parole for a limited period under certain situations (sometimes within a year). The only authorities that can pardon a sentence in India is The President or The Government after review which is decided on a case-by-case basis.
