There were 24 suspects. The first suspect was Montague John Druitt.
That case was not closed.
Still unsolved.
There isn't one. The case has never been solved.
Nope still a open case.Actually, the case was officially closed in 1892.//The case of Jack The Ripper is unresolved and officially considered an open case. As with any open criminal investigation the files are not accessable to the public. British law dictates that the unsolved Ripper crimes, although still an open case, after 75 years the files are opened. This ensures that more than likely the killer is long dead, as would be any family members of the victims that could suffer from such information being scutinized by the public.
There is a museum that claims to have the knife of Jack The Ripper. If you 'read the fine print' you will find that it is not the knife used by the Ripper. There was never a weapon recovered in this case. In what remains of autopsy reports of the Ripper's victims it can't even be determined as to the exact type and size of the knife used.
How Lewis Carroll was ever added to the list of suspects in the Ripper crimes is a mystery to all who have studied the case. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to many of those on that list. Carroll just happened to be in London around the time of the Ripper murders, as were millions of others. The population of London in 1888 was about five million. Carroll was not Jack The Ripper, nor was the Queen's grandson Albert, Joseph Merrick the Elephant Man, or Sir William Gull, physician in ordinary to the Queen. Carroll was just a celebrity in London at the wrong time.
In 1888 London, there was much name-calling and finger pointing, most of it toward the Jewish community in the Whitechapel district. But reguardless of personal prejudices toward Jews, there is absolutely no evidence that Jack The Ripper was Jewish. Several of what some consider 'serious' suspects were Jewish. Aaron Kosminski and Michael Ostrog have been named repeatedly as suspects in the 120 years since the Ripper's crimes began. 'Leather Apron', or John Pizer as he was known in his everyday life, became a 'scapegoat' for the hysterical masses and was almost lynched by anti-semetic citizens. The important thing to remember in a cold case such as this, stick to the facts, reject all undocumented information, and the Ripper suspect list will be amazingly short.
Probably not. Jack The Ripper is still unidentified and although it's been over 120 years since hes murders began the case is still officially open and unsolved.
Jack the Ripper was a serial killer active in London's east end beginning in the year 1888. He was never caught nor identified, which leaves the cold case a focal point for theorists and amateur detectives.

Jack the ripper was the first serial killer to reach the media. The world has eyes on him. It was a scandal about the condition the police was at that time. There were no false starts in this case. There was nothing to go on but the remains of the victims. Even today it takes quite some time to catch a murderer on the run, but in the case of Jack the Ripper, there were many aspects police today would not come across.
