The United States Constitution establishes the qualifications for members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. According to Article I, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution, House members must be 25 years of age, a citizen of the United States for at least seven years prior to being elected, and a resident of the state he or she is chosen to represent.
