This is so strange, because my girlfriend's daughter is going through the same thing. She was going with a really nice guy who had 2 teenage daughters (the daughters liked his new girlfriend.) This girl does not have children of her own and was honest in telling her new boyfriend that she wanted children in the future. He had no problem with this at the beginning, but after 4 years she wanted an engagement ring on her finger and plans for the future. The guy couldn't handle it and broke the news to her that he didn't want anymore children. They separated and he did call her back and wanted to take her out for dinner, but she stood her ground and told him unless he had changed his mind about starting another family with her she was not coming back to him. To date, they have not been in contact and that's 2 months ago. Sometimes a trial separation will benefit you because each person can take the time to reflect on what they want in life. Children aren't for everyone. Some men are terrified of starting a family. Be sure you let him know that you just don't want to rush in to rais a family, but do want children eventually. There is that old saying ... "If you love something set it free and if it doesn't come back to you it wasn't meant to be." I know you must feel heartbroken and it is a great risk, but, it's best to find out now than later. Good luck Merry Christmas Marcy

Does same-sex marriage benefit children?

Perhaps the most important benefit is showing children that despite what many religions say, gay marriage is no different from any other. The most important thing children need to know is that marriage is about more than "plumbing" -- it's about commitment, caring, support, and love. If the parents are caring and loving for each other and their children then all will be fine; if they aren't then there can be problems.

What does 'two degrees of separation' mean?

The phrase "two degrees of separation" refers to the idea that any two people in the world are connected through a chain of acquaintances that involves just two intermediaries. This concept builds on the broader notion of "six degrees of separation," which suggests that everyone is connected to anyone else through a maximum of six social connections. In essence, if you know someone (one degree) and that person knows another individual (the second degree), you are two degrees of separation away from that other person. This highlights the interconnectedness of social relationships in society.
