If Jeffrey Dahmer was not abused as a child why did he become a murderer?

Jeffrey Dahmer was not abused as a child by his parents, but he was kind of neglected inadvertantly because of his parents relentless fighting.Also,his parents CONSTANT and sometimes viscious fighting IS indirectly a form of abuse,and it effected Jeff very profoundly,his parents were too wrapped up in their affairs to notice what a profound effect it was having on their eldest son,which also made Jeff feel unnoticed. But Jeffrey was sexually molested by a neighbor at a young age after his familly moved to Ohio.

Although not abused by his parents, Dahmer was the victim of school bullies. There is more known now about the effects of this type of abuse, but at the time, young Jeffrey was more or less told to 'endure' and hope it would get better. It never did. This must have had devastating consequences on Dahmer as a child. there was never any evidence that Jeff was molested as a child, Jeff himself emphatically denied this claim.

Dahmer, although not abused in the typical sense, did have 2 parents that fought nonstop for most of his young life. This alone would not make a killer. Dahmer's father, of his own admission had violent fantasies, especially when he was a young man. For him they never were more than thoughts, it probably in some way made Jeffrey more likely to become a killer. In a way he was predisposed to violent fantasies. Violent fantasies are the engine the power the serial murderer.

One does not HAVE to be abused as a child to become a killer. While it IS common, it is not a prerequisite.

By all accounts, no. Dahmer was abused by neither parent. Although the Dahmer home was far from peaceful, the elder Dahmers fueding endlessly in front of Jeffrey and his brother. I doubt very much this was the cause of Jeffrey's later trouble. If fighting parents caused serial killer offspring, the human race would have killed itself off thousands of years ago.

Dahmer was a victim of bullying, and later turned to alcohol as a way to cope with life, and possibly to self-medicate, as he became aware of his homosexuality. But the mother-as-abuser is off the hook for this one, anyway.

Dahmer's first sex offense was the molestation of a 13 year old boy, and many of his victims were underage. But he did not hunt young boys exclusively, his oldest victim was 27. So I don't think he is classified as a pedophile, but may have pedophile inclinations or tendencies.
