It is my understanding that it takes 7 years for a bankruptcy to cease to appear on a credit report. I do not know if this global, but this is the case in Canada. Your bank will know the answer to this for your region. ie; if you ask them for a credit card or loan - they will generally look up your credit history and then advise you when you should apply.

In the US it's 10 years...and actually credit agencies may prepare information reports for subscribers that are for longer periods. The court record maintains much longer.

But if it's over 10 years...ask the agency to update their report please.

Bankruptcies are a matter of public record and this is why they appear in credit histories. The credit report entry will state the bankruptcy was filed and dismissed, not discharged.
