Is it Legal?

Which countries legal systems are we talking about here?

It's a very grey area at the moment - Which is why people get sued instead of prosecuted. It is also why Music Industries utilise Political levers instead of straight prosecution.

If you imported drugs, for example, or killed someone then it's going to be very straight forward - Your going to burn. If you copy DVDs and sell them then clearly you are earning money from someone else work.

If the Music industry has failed to protect it's business interests due to a lack of understanding of the internet then that's just bad business. If it were against the Law then would it still be operating..?

It's more an ethical question you need to ask as currently the Law does not sufficiently protect the music industry. If it did you would see less law suits and more criminal prosecutions.

That does not mean that the Music industry can't make it "uncomfortable" for you if you choose to download - Do you have $1 million spare to throw at a defense lawyer? Just because they have no legal grounds that does not mean they cannot touch you.
