Being proven unfit is interpretive, and limited by state budget problems. Unless there's an immediate danger, they will not take the kids as there's no place to put them. They will not consider a separated father, and other family member would get state funding to take the children in. My own daughter had her power off for three weeks, four times this year, so food has to be stored with ice.

If they do take the kids, they will be put into a home within a 250 mile range, even if outside the state.
