Crimes that should be punishable by death, but did not get the death penalty in recent times are; crimes of terror attack, and crimes against humanity.
Penalties for Corporate Crimes are no different then penalties for non-corporate crimes. The penalty should fit the crime and will change depending on the level of the crime. In recent years we have seen more corporate crime but we have not really seen the penalties being put in place.
No it is illegal
The early American thinker from Virginia who argued in 1776 that only treason and murder should be punishable by death was Thomas Jefferson. In his draft of the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, he expressed his belief that the death penalty should be reserved for the most severe crimes. Jefferson's views reflected his Enlightenment ideals about justice and the value of human life.
The death penalty is archaic and does not deter crime-it should be abolished. Many drug sentences are far to harsh for the crimes they punish. There should also be better treatment of military veterans who commit crimes.
The BEST way to take action against the death penalty would be to commit suicide. Anyone stupid enough to not think that there are crimes that deserve the ultimate penalty should not be breathing any more air then those who believe that their crimes should have no repercussions. Locking them away forever in a jail cell so they can prey on the petty criminals who actually have a chance to change is no punishment for animals like that, and is cruel and unusual punishment for the petty criminals. Jeffrey Dahlmer (sp?), Adolph Hilter, Idi Amin...... none of them deserved to die for their crimes? Riiiiiiight......
In my opinion, youth should not be subject to the death penalty. If they have to do time for the rest of their life for murder, I can understand, but death who are we to say so. In my belief, they should not be tried as an adult until they are 21. They cannot drink or buy cigarettes until 21, so why should they be tried as an adul?
They should be sent to jail but shouldn't be executed. In fact, I almost forgot that I was British. You shouldn't be executed for any crimes (unless your name is Osama Bin Laden)
There are a couple of different arguments that are used for keeping the death penalty. Deterrence used to be the most popular, and is still fairly popular although it seems to be in decline. Some argue that capital punishment should be threatened rarely because threatening it too often and for too many crimes would be counter productive. For example, if burglary was punishable by death then there would be incentive to kill witnesses. However, if only murder is punishable by death, the burglar has an incentive to make sure not to kill anyone while committing their crime. Another argument is incapacitation, that the dead can no longer harm anyone. Ernest van den Haag discusses this in Ch.5 Justice Deterrence and the Death Penalty, in America's Experiment with Capital Punishment. Retribution is the argument that seems to be most on the rise. There is a good write up of this argument on Wikipedia's page Capital Punishment Debate, and it cites several reputable death penalty scholars such as Hugo A. Bedau.
No not necessarily, I don't think a gang member should get a harsher penalty just because they're in a gang, it all depends on what that person does.
Some people believe that the death penalty should be stopped. This is a give or take issue. An issue with having the death penalty, is being killed when you haven't actually done the crime, which in this day and age, dosen't happen a lot, but when it does is trauma and a name for that person. The death penalty would be good, for people that have done extreme crimes, such as murder, rapings and other misfits of judgements, but also for those who have been wrongly accused this could be a problem.
Yes No, it should not. An eye for an eye. You deserve the same fate you gave your victim. Of course there should be major, flawless laws for the death penalty, and of course understandable reasons for being put under the death penalty. For example, if you steal a car, the death penalty is just too harsh of a punishment. But if you murder someone, then the death penalty is an excellent form of punishment; again, an eye for an eye.
it should not be
